As a language learner and a teacher with ESL experience, I understand through first hand experience the struggles of trying to grasp a concept I can’t understand. The ability to help students through this struggle and better themselves is something that pushes me to be the best teacher I can be. I really enjoy one on one environments with students because my teaching style lends itself well to having a genuine conversation with the student while they learn. Because of this I can help teach students not only reading and writing, but also social studies, history, and a variety of other subjects.“
“Individualized person-to-person conversation and guided practice is the traditional (pre-industrial) approach to teaching and learning, and it is still the best approach. Despite their greatest efforts, schoolteachers (and textbook writers) are obliged to talk at students – not so much to them, and very rarely (if ever) with them. This mode of communication doesn’t work well for most people. I love tutoring because I can effectively promote students’ active engagement with the difficult stuff that is really worth learning!”
